Troy Scott is serving St. John’s as Organist/Choirmaster. Troy graduated in 1970 from Mobile County Public Schools. A graduate of the University of Alabama Troy graduated with a Bachelor of Music Degree in Pipe Organ Performance in 1975 and a Master of Music Degree in Pipe Organ Performance in 1977, both with added emphasis in choral music, arranging, etc.
After completing his Master’s degree in 1977 he worked as organist/choirmaster for St. John’s Episcopal Church in Pascagoula, Mississippi followed by several years as Organist/Choirmaster at the Cathedral-Basilica of the Immaculate Conception in Mobile, Alabama. In 1978 he and Madison Lindsey formed Pipe Organ Specialties, Inc. and to this day build and repair pipe organs world wide. One of his many projects in years past included rebuilding and enlarging the Austin Organ here at St. John’s .
Troy was confirmed at St. John’s Episcopal Church, Laurel and has been singing in our choir for many years. In 1985, following the death of then St. John’s organist/choirmaster Dorothy Cameron, Troy served as Organist/Choirmaster for more than two years. He is excited to be “returning to his roots” as a church musician.
